Project
I reached Beskyt Aarhus Bugten, an organization focused on resisting the construction of a new harbor in Aarhus in order to collaborate to their cause. I wanted to spread awareness that this construction threatened the sea's ecosystem that could lead to devastating permanent losses to marine life in Aarhus.
Scan the QR code (top right corner), point to this image above and you will able to join the AR experience - no need to install the app.
My vision was to use the painting "Menneskesamfundet" from Thorvald Hagedorn-Olsen to create a critic to what the city hall plans were proposing. The painting is composed of people bathing and moving around by Aarhus Bay and this project would threaten the possibility of bathing in those waters.
This hypocrisy sparkled an idea on me, why don't I use this symbol in order to protest against this project?
Approach
I started by creating an animation where the beautiful blue of this painting would turn black, dead fish would appear floating. A lot of containers and trucks would emerge highlighting the huge amount of traffic increase that this project would demand.
The next step was to create a Spark project in order for people to be able to access this AR solution on their phones once they were inside the city hall.
Challenges
The main challenge was the size limitations of the animation in order for spark to be able to upload it to their system. I had to export the jpg sequences in a very low resolution but still enough for the users not to notice any large difference from the AR to the painting itself.
Results
It worked seamlessly! My idea came to life, you could access the filter from my instagram/facebook page and anyone could experience it through their own phones and share it with friends!
