Project
Matthias Geiger, a composer and organist based in Randers, invited me to create posters for several of his concert projects. Each concert had its own concept, atmosphere, and audience, which gave me the opportunity to explore different visual directions while maintaining a strong connection to his artistic vision.
My goal was to translate the concept behind each concert into a visual story. Rather than simply promoting the event, I wanted each poster to communicate something about the mood, theme, and experience of the performance.
Approach
I developed original illustrations and compositions based on the atmosphere Matthias wanted each concert to convey. I focused on finding visual metaphors, shapes, textures, and compositions that could express the character of the music while remaining engaging and accessible to the audience.
The process was highly collaborative. Matthias shared his ideas and intentions for each concert, and I translated them into a visual language that could work effectively as a poster.
Challenges
The main challenge was finding the right balance between the composer's artistic vision and the expectations of the audience attending the concerts.
The visuals needed to reflect Matthias' ideas accurately while also being immediately understandable, intriguing, and visually appealing to people encountering the poster without any previous knowledge of the project.
Results
Both illustrated posters received very positive feedback from Matthias and from the concert audiences. The illustrations seemed to connect particularly well with viewers and helped communicate the atmosphere of the performances before the audience even entered the concert space.
For me, the positive response confirmed how effectively illustration and visual storytelling can support and extend a musical concept.
